Apple has begun testing a new AI-based automated support feature in its Support app, currently available to a select group of iPhone users. This initiative marks Apple’s entry into chatbot solutions with behavior similar to ChatGPT, but it is designed specifically for technical support rather than general conversation.
The feature appears as a “Chat” button within the navigation bar of the Support app. When users tap it, they are connected to the Support Assistant—a virtual assistant capable of answering questions about Apple products and services. Upon activation, the assistant presents an introductory screen that guides users on how to interact with it.
The Support Assistant can provide troubleshooting instructions, explain system features, and respond to technical queries related to Apple devices and services. Its functionality, however, is limited to official support matters; it is not equipped to answer questions about topics outside technical assistance, such as rumors about unreleased products or non-Apple subjects.
According to information shared by MacRumors, If the assistant cannot resolve a user’s issue, the system offers the option to escalate the conversation to a human Apple specialist. Apple emphasizes that this AI tool is still experimental. As such, it may make mistakes, and the company recommends that users verify all information and solutions provided by the chatbot, rather than rely on them unquestioningly.
Currently, the AI assistant is only accessible to a small number of users and remains in the testing phase. There is no timeline for a wider—let alone global—release, nor has Apple announced when or if the feature will become a permanent part of the official Support app.
